Ashtons Legal provides the opportunity to qualify as a lawyer with the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx). CILEx provides a range of qualifications, see here for more details.
The CILEx Level 6 Diploma in Law and Practice, which builds on the Level 3 Diploma in Law and Practice, is the second and final academic stage towards qualification as a Chartered Legal Executive. On completion of the Level 3 and Level 6 Diplomas, you are expected to undertake a period of work-based learning, which is recorded in a portfolio.
The diplomas involve remote, online learning, and provide equal opportunity to understand the law and implement it in practice. There are also two Professional Skills modules, relating to client management and research. The modules are comprehensive in preparing you for the multi-dimensional role that is a lawyer.
Independent study time can fit around other commitments, and there are induction and revision days to get you started. The nature of the qualification means it is possible to train alongside earning a full-time wage in the legal sector and simultaneously put your knowledge into practice at work. There is no set timeframe to complete the qualification and no set timetable – you can study when you like for as long as you like.
There are no formal entry requirements but CILEx recommends that learners have a minimum of four GCSEs at grade C or above (including English Language/Literature) or equivalent qualifications. The Graduate Fast-track Diploma is available for those who already have a qualifying law degree (see here for more information).

From 2021, the new CILEX Professional Qualification (CPQ) will be available (more information is available here). If you start studying a Level 3 or Level 6 Diploma now, you will have until November 2023 and November 2026 respectively to complete it.
