Ashtons Legal: Nurses Education Fund

Ashtons Legal are proud to sponsor health care professionals and researchers to support travel and attend at conferences.

Over the last two and a half years Ashtons Legal have supported a number of nurses, including, Kate Slaven, Royal Papworth LCNS &  Mesothelioma UK Specialist Nurse, to attend the International Mesothelioma Interest Group (IMIG) and National Lung Cancer Forum for Nurses (NLCFN) in 2018 and 2019. Kate promoting a poster with her colleagues focusing on the proven benefits of mesothelioma patients and carers attending patient social groups, and in return, Kate speaks at our patient support group twice per year..

We have also sponsored a number of other nurses from our local hospitals in Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire who are studying for MSc, in addition to researchers from the North who are training to become mesothelioma specialist nurses or who are lung cancer nurse specialists in District General Hospitals looking to improve and build upon their existing knowledge.

Since the nurse’s education fund was introduced we have received many emails of thanks for providing these opportunities to NHS health care professionals who report being able to share with their team latest developments and best practice for the benefit of our mutual patients.

Ashtons Legal are proud to sponsor NHS Health Care Professionals who rely on vital funding from outside of the NHS in order to attend such Study Days and Patient Carer Days which are of a huge benefit to them and their patients.

Ashtons Legal & Mesothelioma UK

In 2017 we supported the Mesothelioma UK nurses education by sponsoring their annual update which followed our inaugural Patient & Carer Day which was held at the Holiday Inn in Norwich. This event was very well received with health care professionals from local hospitals attending. Ashtons Legal are sponsoring a similar event on 26 June 2019 at Monks Barn with the LCNS team from The Princess Alexandra Hospital Harlow, together with St Clare Hospice.

Ashtons Legal & National Lung Cancer Forum for Nurses (NLCFN)

Ashtons Legal has sponsored nurses to attend the National Lung Cancer Forum for Nurses in 2017 and 2018.

Phoebe Osborne and Caroline Trinder attended in Newcastle in 2017 and in 2018 Phoebe Osborne and Martyn Hayward attended the conference in Telford.

The team are booked to attend again and this year’s 20th Anniversary event will be held in Heathrow.

These conferences are of vital importance to health care professionals and solicitors in the UK.  The purpose of the meetings is to review the current treatments, improve standards of care for mesothelioma and lung cancer sufferers.  There is also representatives from many other national and regional law firms together with pharmaceutical companies all of whom are interested in improving patient care and quality of treatment.

Why we sponsor nurses?

From our point of view as lawyers specialising in mesothelioma claims, it is interesting to hear regular updates about ongoing clinical trials in the UK and overseas.

By sponsoring these conferences, the dedicated nurses, physicians and oncologists we work with are able to meet and discuss best practice and everyone we have sponsored have been very grateful for the opportunity.

Applications for sponsorship from the Ashtons Legal Nurses Education Fund should be made directly to Phoebe Osborne or Martyn Hayward.

A copy of the application form will be sent to you for completion and applications are processed within four weeks of submission.
