Spotlight On… Claire Sleep
Our next spotlight is on Claire Sleep, a Partner in our Employment Law team.

What is your role at Ashtons?
Partner in the Employment Team based in Cambridge.
I have just taken on the role of Training Principal, which means I take overall responsibility for overseeing the training of Trainee Solicitors and Apprentices to ensure the training meets the required standard set by the SRA.
How long have you been at the firm?
11 years.
Who is in your team?
I work closely with Felicity Sparkes in my role as Training Principal.
In the Employment Team, I manage Lisa Downey (Legal Executive), Francesca Dooley (Solicitor) and Kathryn Knight (HR Consultant for external clients), as well as working very closely with Sandra Stickney (PA). The Employment Law team is headed up by Ross Strowger, and we have a fantastic, supportive team across the firm’s offices.
Do you have any specialisms?
The vast majority of my work is for employers, a number of whom are in the Education sector. I advise a great deal on Discrimination issues, and I head up our Employment Law Training function, delivering Employment Law training courses to clients.
Did you ever consider a different career?
I applied to become an Accountant after my Law Degree, but then changed my mind, so I had to take a year out before starting my Legal Practice Course and applying for a Training Contract at Law Firms.
If you could give your younger self some career advice, what would it be?
Be more confident and aware that although you may think others (e.g. the other side) know much more than you, often they don’t!
