Possible takeover by Amazon to encourage entrepreneurs to make acquisitions?
Posted 20/09/2010
Business owners could be encouraged to make their own acquisitions following news that internet giant Amazon is keen to take over Lovefilm.
According to reports, the company wants to acquire the DVD rental service in a bid to expand its offerings, a common aspiration for any buyout.
With the recent BDO 2010 Mid-Market Corporate M&A survey suggesting that almost 80 per cent of firms are looking to make acquisitions over the next five years, this move could encourage entrepreneurs from businesses of all sizes to buy an existing company in order to grow their own profile.
However, it is important to remember that the legalities of acquisitions and mergers can be complex, particularly as most business owners are likely to have considerably smaller budgets than Amazon.
Consequently, when considering buying another company, it is important to seek the advice of specialist solicitors in the company and commercial field.
