Members of staff at a college in London may be facing redundancy as a result of funding cuts at the educational establishment.Adult learning courses at the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London will have to manage without a grant of £2.2 million by the coalition government, while classes for young people are expected to be asked to cope without £1.5 million from the state. The University and College Union (UCU) suggested compulsory redundancies may be needed in order to address the funding cuts at the locations, reports the Haringey Independent.Acting branch secretary of UCU Lizette D’Cruz said: “Our members are doing a great job as teachers and support staff in an already difficult climate in an area hit by last summer’s riots.”Employers making staffing cuts to their organisation need to ensure the redundancy process is handled in a fair and legally correct manner in order to prevent action being taken against them.
