Ashtons Legal and Headway Cambridgeshire have joined forces to put on an art exhibition with a difference at the Williams Gallery in Cambridge.

The exhibition will run from Friday 18th – Tuesday 30th January at the gallery in Gwydir Street and has been compiled by Headway’s art therapist support workers. All the works of art, including sculpture, painting and embroidery, have been created by people who have acquired brain injury and the exhibition will be a celebration of their artistic achievements. It will also illustrate how changes in the brain can influence the way in which people see and portray everyday items or the subjects of their imagination. An example of the artwork which will be on display is shown above.

Mary Goode, CEO at Headway Cambridgeshire, explains: “Art and other creative pursuits are a very valuable part of the post-injury rehabilitation process at Headway. Many of the people we work with are artistically talented and we are really excited to be able to share their work with the public. We hope as many people as possible will come and visit the exhibition.”

Ruth Booy heads the Injury Services team at Ashtons Legal and is a Trustee of Headway Cambridgeshire. She says:

“We see the positive benefits of Headway’s rehabilitation programmes in the course of our work with brain injured clients and are delighted to be able to help showcase these particular artistic achievements. This is of course just one aspect of the vital work undertaken at Headway in offering support and rehabilitation to people with an acquired brain injury, their family and their carers. The exhibition will also help to raise vital funds for the charity, which launched a capital appeal in July 2012, seeking to raise £2.5m to build a new rehabilitation centre.”
