£60,000 obtained for delayed diagnosis of bowel obstruction
Julie Crossley, a medical injury lawyer at Ashtons Legal, has obtained a £60,000 for Mrs T after her local hospital took three days to diagnose a bowel obstruction as the cause of abdominal pain.
As a result Mrs T suffered a perforated bowel which required surgery and has since suffered long term problems with faecal incontinence and diarrhoea.
Julie comments: “If Mrs T had been given a scan much earlier in the process, she would not have needed surgery or suffered ongoing problems. Sadly we see instances of delayed diagnosis in relation to a wide range of medical conditions. There can also be a reluctance to acknowledge the value of the impact that such delays have on people’s lives; the initial offer of compensation made in this case was only just over half of the final settlement obtained.”
