Settlement for a man who received incorrect components during hip replacement

Ali Masterson, Trainee Legal Executive in our Medical Negligence team, has obtained a settlement of £17,500 for Mr G, who received incorrect components as part of his right hip replacement in November 2021.

Mr G was admitted to Spire Hospital in Norwich for his right hip replacement in November 2021. In December 2021, Mr G was contacted by the Hospital, who advised that a component discrepancy had come to light. Mr G was advised by the Hospital and the surgeon who undertook the original operation that he would need a further operation to replace the components.

The revision surgery took place two months later and Mr G made a good recovery. The revision surgery required the exchange of the removable components rather than the implanted components. Mr G went on to make an excellent recovery from his revision surgery.

Ali comments: “The Hospital and surgeon immediately notified Mr G of the issue regarding the components used in his right hip replacement which reduced the damage that Mr G might have suffered had they delayed in doing so. Following their internal investigation, the Hospital has put measures in place to reduce the risk of this happening again. I was delighted that Mr G made a good recovery from his remedial surgery and that I was able to advise and negotiate a relatively quick resolution to this matter.”
