NHS Targets Missed

  • Posted

A recent study by BBC News has found that the NHS has missed key targets for at least seven years.

The study focussed on crucial targets including cancer care, planned treatment and A&E.

There have been some improvements over the years but long delays and lengthy waiting lists are still the norm.

A&E waits have worsened, with around 69% of patients being seen within four hours. However, some are still waiting over 12 hours for treatment. Around 65% of urgent cancer referral patients are also waiting longer than 62 days to start treatment. The waiting list for routine care is at 7.6 million and there appears to be very little improvement afoot.

These figures highlight how the NHS is failing patients in several vital areas which will undoubtedly have a knock-on effect on quality of life and mortality.

We will see more patients facing delays, cancellations and not receiving necessary treatment as a result.
