Mesothelioma claim against British Sugar settled for former welder

  • Posted

Ashtons Legal has obtained a compensation settlement for Mrs T, the widow of a former British Sugar employee who died last year from malignant mesothelioma.

Mr T had worked for British Sugar for many years, first as a welder in the 1960s and later as a chemist.  He was exposed to asbestos dust on a regular basis during his time with the company and when he was in his late 70s he started to show symptoms consistent with mesothelioma.  His life expectancy was reduced by over seven years by the deadly disease.

Mrs T’s lawyer comments: “Fortunately British Sugar now take all proper measures to ensure the safety of their workers but for the time being claims are still coming through from those exposed to asbestos back in the 1960s when the current guidance and measures were not in place.  In addition to bringing this claim, we have been pleased to be able to join others in supporting the family through the Anglia Asbestos Disease Support Group which I know they have found helpful at a difficult time.”
