£3,500 obtained for a Norfolk woman following negligent dental treatment

  • Posted

Amanda Cavanagh, a medical negligence lawyer at Ashtons Legal, has settled a claim for Ms B following negligent dental treatment. Ms B was a teenager at the time this sequence of events began and was suffering from impacted teeth. During treatment, a consultant orthodontist failed to give Ms B all the treatment options available and misidentified a baby tooth as an adult tooth. The treatment plan meant that the baby tooth was not removed. As a result, following months of treatment, the baby tooth did what it was designed to do and fell out, leaving Ms B who was now an adult, with a gap at the front of her smile which left her requiring a bridge.

Amanda comments: “Misidentifying the tooth was a fundamental orthodontic mistake. The issues regarding consent and failure to explain treatment options are unfortunately encountered in a range of clinical situations. Although this settlement will not provide Ms B with a replacement tooth, it does allow her to recover her losses in respect of the dental bridge.”
