Six figure settlement obtained for injured HGV driver

Graham Heywood, a member of the Ashtons specialist personal injury claim team, has recently settled the claim of Mr G, an HGV driver in his early 60s.

Mr G was hit by a car whilst doing some running repairs to his own vehicle after a minor accident. He suffered fractures to his spine and hips and a brain injury. As a result of the brain injury he suffered, Mr G was unable to continue in his job as an HGV driver, although he is potentially able to work in a different role. Mr G is a foreign national, and he wanted to return to his native country after losing his job as a result of the head injury suffered during the accident.

The insurers representing the driver of the other vehicle refused to fund Mr G’s rehabilitation treatment, despite the driver admitting that the incident and Mr G’s injuries were his fault. Ashtons nevertheless arranged for a case manager to be appointed to assess Mr G’s therapy and treatment needs.

Graham comments: “Due to the insurers’ initial lack of co-operation, we had to issue court proceedings, but at this point they made a realistic offer to settle Mr G’s injury claim. Mr G can now focus on his future, albeit not doing the job that he had originally chosen.”

Mr G wrote to Graham to say: “I wanted to sincerely thank you for all the hard work and support you’ve given throughout the entire process. I am grateful for the time and effort you invested in the case. It’s a great relief to have everything concluded, and I couldn’t have reached this point without your help. Thank you again for everything”.
