£342,000 personal injury settlement obtained for Suffolk cyclist

Nick Peake, a personal injury specialist at Ashtons Legal, has successfully settled the claim of Ipswich cyclist Ms P for £342,000.

Ms P was riding her bicycle in Ipswich, was involved in a collision with a taxi and suffered a range of injuries as a result.

The most debilitating and life-changing of these was diagnosed by her medical team as a mild traumatic brain injury, although this was disputed by the taxi driver’s insurers. They also disputed that the incident was the taxi driver’s fault.

Nick Peake comments: “Ms P was in her 50s and self-employed at the time of the incident. She had recently begun to build up her own small business, but since the accident, she has been unable to turn this plan into a reality due to the neurological problems she now suffers. Much of the settlement we have managed to obtain for her relates to her lost past and future earnings. It will also enable her to enlist the support she needs from other people to have as normal a life as possible, given her injuries.

“This is a classic example of a claim where persevering is necessary and worthwhile to get the injured party the best possible chance of a positive future. Because the taxi driver’s insurers continued to deny that the accident was his fault, we had to take this claim all the way to trial to get the right result for Ms P.”
