£110,000 injury claim settlement following workplace fatality
Graham Heywood, a personal injury specialist solicitor at Ashtons Legal, has successfully settled a claim on behalf of the family of a man who died as a result of an accident at work.
Mr K was employed as an engineer in a Suffolk manufacturing plant. He died after his clothing became entangled in a lathe that was used for cutting pieces of metal, and he was pulled into it and crushed by the machinery. There was an Inquest into his death, at which Ashtons represented the family. The Coroner concluded that a lack of training and communication of risk assessments was likely to have contributed to Mr K’s death.
Graham comments: “Mr K was only in his mid-30s at the time of his death and had shared parental care for his teenage daughter. We brought the claim on her behalf against Mr K’s employers for their negligence in failing to take various steps which could and should have ensured he remained safe at work. Workplace injuries remain all too frequent, despite extensive legislation designed to ensure that accidents at work are minimised and safety is always a high priority.”
