It is the aim of Anglia Asbestos Disease Support Group and their sponsors Ashtons Legal, to raise enough money to fund a Mesothelioma UK Nurse Specialist post in either Norfolk or Suffolk, and to fund study days/educational events that enhance mesothelioma knowledge for cancer nurse specialists in the region.
The provision of specialist mesothelioma nursing services trained in the charity sector by Mesothelioma UK (a cancer charity specialising in asbestos-related diseases) can make a big difference to the lives of sufferers. They are experts in all issues related to mesothelioma including prevention, treatments, clinical trials and finances; and work with clinical teams to ensure equitable access to the best treatments in the UK.
Currently, there is only one specialist nurse based in the Eastern region, at Royal Papworth Hospital, Huntingdon. This is a difficult and impossible journey for many sufferers living in central and eastern Norfolk and Suffolk.
It costs approximately £60,000 to fund a Mesothelioma UK Nurse Specialist for two days a week, over a two year period. Thereafter, the post is funded by Mesothelioma UK.
As of August 2021, we have raised over £20,000 towards this target.
