Anglia Asbestos Support Group fundraising for a Mesothelioma UK Nurse for Norfolk or Suffolk.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) – Our virtual meetings will now be held on the video conferencing site Zoom. It is easy to use and allows us to continue our support group meetings safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to this, we are no longer able to fundraise at these sessions so ask for anyone looking to make a donation to contact Vicki Clover at Ashtons Legal on 01603 703244 or donate directly on our Just Giving page..
It is the aim of Anglia Asbestos Disease Support Group and their sponsors Ashtons Legal, to raise enough money to fund a Mesothelioma UK Nurse Specialist post in either Norfolk or Suffolk, and to fund study days/educational events that enhance mesothelioma knowledge for cancer nurse specialists in the region.
The provision of specialist mesothelioma nursing services trained in the charity sector by Mesothelioma UK (a cancer charity specialising in asbestos-related diseases) can make a big difference to the lives of sufferers. They are experts in all issues related to mesothelioma including prevention, treatments, clinical trials and finances; and work with clinical teams to ensure equitable access to the best treatments in the UK.
Currently, there is only one specialist nurse based in the Eastern region, at Royal Papworth Hospital, Huntingdon. This is a difficult and impossible journey for many sufferers living in central and eastern Norfolk and Suffolk.
It costs approximately £60,000 to fund a Mesothelioma UK Nurse Specialist for two days a week, over a two year period. Thereafter, the post is funded by Mesothelioma UK.
As of October 2020, we have raised over £18,000 towards this target. If you would like to make a donation, please contact Vicki Clover at Ashtons Legal on 01603 703244, alternatively email firstname.lastname@example.org. All money raised will go to Mesothelioma UK and will be spent locally in Norfolk/Suffolk.
