Oliver Brabbins - Partner
Oliver is a partner in our Employment Law team.
Following a successful career as an HR manager in both the public and private sector, he trained as a barrister before converting to a solicitor in 2001, specialising in Employment Law.
Oliver excels in providing pragmatic, solution-based advice in an industrial relations context. His background provides him with a rare understanding of the role of the HR manager and his advice is designed to assist clients to achieve their objectives, rather than frustrate them in their efforts to run a business.
Particularly highly regarded for his advocacy skills, Oliver represents clients at employment tribunals across the UK and the Employment Appeal Tribunal. As well as advocacy, Oliver has a special interest and expertise in advising on large scale reorganisations and redundancies, industrial relations and the TUPE Regulations.
Recent work highlights include:
- advising on a complex large scale redundancy exercise and the TUPE implications of a trans-national relocation outside the EU
- successfully defending a company seeking to dis-apply the TUPE regulations in circumstances where they acquired a business in a creditors’ voluntary liquidation
- representing a household name commercial client in the High Court securing an ex parte injunction restraining the use of business-critical confidential information
- advising on the redundancy implications and practicalities of a large scale relocation of a head office for a major plc and advising on the application of a contractual mobility clause.
Oliver enjoys getting to know and understand his clients’ businesses and the challenges they face, and becoming part of the solution for them through working in collaboration with key stakeholders in a collegiate atmosphere.
Oliver holds a CIPD qualification and is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.
He is ranked Band 1 in the Chambers & Partners 2022 publication for East Anglia.
In his spare time, Oliver is an avid skier and enjoys working out regularly at the gym, riding his bikes and getting beaten at squash by his much younger colleagues!
