Wills ‘aren’t just for the very wealthy’

A legal expert has warned of the importance of having a Will drawn up, regardless of income or wealth.
Brian McMillan director-general of the Society of Will Writers, was speaking in response to figures from Standard Life earlier this week, which showed that 51 per cent of British adults have not yet made a Will.
He explained that some people may think Wills do not apply to them because they do not have a significant estate to divide up, but pointed out that the documents also detail the appointment of guardians for dependents and other important arrangements.
“They are [about] ensuring that those who you love are provided for when you die,” Mr McMillan concluded.
If your circumstances are relatively straightforward, an online Will from Ashtons Legal could be an option. These offer the convenience of a do-it-yourself document, but are carefully checked by a Wills specialist after submission to remove any mistakes that could otherwise make them void.
