Stafford Hospital Inquiry
Posted 08/11/2010
As widely reported in the national media today, Stafford Hospital is now set to be the subject of a public inquiry.
In 2009 a report condemned conditions at the hospital which it is alleged have caused hundreds of unnecessary deaths.
National media coverage can be found by following the link below. Rosamund Rhodes-Kemp, who heads the medical injury team at Ashtons Legal, comments:
“The most telling aspect is that external and internal regulatory systems completely failed to safeguard patients and pick up on widespread poor care resulting in hundreds of people dying. External agencies accepted reassurances and the Senior Nurse Manager – or Matron – was so far removed from the ground that she did not see it as part of her job to see what was going on on the wards! It makes a mockery of the notion of a Patient Centred Health Service. The problems patients experienced at this Trust may be widespread according to the Patients Association so lessons must be learned from the Inquiry findings”.
