IoD: Employment law review a farce
Posted 06/06/2012
A review of planned changes to employment law ordered by business secretary Vince Cable has been labelled as a “farce” by the Institute of Directors (IoD).Liberal Democrat MP Mr Cable told the Sun that the proposed reform – which would make it easier for organisations to sack members of staff – was “nonsense”.But in its consultation, the IoD has claimed it is “astonished” Mr Cable has “already dismissed the idea in the middle of a consultation and it calls into question the purpose and value of consulting”, reports the Daily Telegraph. The EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation, stated it has not found much support among its members for the planned changes to employment law, which it explained is likely to make “little or no difference” to recruitment plans.Jacqueline Gold, chief executive officer of Ann Summers and Knickerbox, also claimed recently that the amendments to employment law are not going to result in the creation of more jobs.Posted by Hywel Griffiths
