Holiday food poisoning claims result in compensation claims

A group of holidaymakers who claim they were made ill as a result of poor hygiene at a hotel are suing their tour operator for personal injury compensation.

The travellers were all guests at Thomson’s four-star Los Gigantes Hotel in Tenerife, but fell ill with severe stomach upsets shortly after arriving.

It is alleged that this was because hotel staff were not adhering to simple safety regulations and were mixing up hot and cold foods, cross-contaminating products and serving produce that was past its sell-by date.

The majority of those affected were diagnosed with salmonella or norovirus, with one elderly man so badly affected that he is still being treated in hospital.

Thomson is now facing compensation claims of more than £1 million if it can be proven that the company was negligent in sending holidaymakers to a hotel that did not meet basic safety standards.

Anyone affected by food poisoning on a package holiday should seek the advice of an expert personal injury lawyer, as they may be able to make compensation claims for their pain and suffering.
