Continued controversy over NHS reforms
Posted 31/01/2012
The recent NHS reforms are potentially one of the most radical plans in the history of the health service, and they are not without controversy. The process has already come to a halt once because of widespread opposition from MPs, medical staff and unions and given recent headlines, it looks to be heading that way again.Samantha Collins, a solicitor in the medical injury team at Ashtons Legal comments: “These reforms signal a huge change for the NHS and the level of opposition at this late stage is worryingly high. Clearly, there is never going to be a perfect model that suits all, however, it is the doctors, nurses and managers who will be left to implement these changes. Surely it follows that if there is such strong opposition from those in place to implement the changes and those with whom the changes will effect, then these opposing views need to be listened to”.
