Anti-slip matting ‘can help avoid personal injury at work’
Posted 31/07/2011
Businesses could avoid having to face personal injury claims by laying anti-slip matting on their premises.
Jill Joyce, senior policy and technical advisor at the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, claimed there are many reasons why this flooring can be a beneficial purchase for firms.
She explained any busy area where a lot of people walk can easily get slippery.
Proper matting could help to avoid this issue, especially in commercial kitchens and fast-food outlets.
Similarly, factory workshops can also be made safer with anti-slip mats, as they can prevent employees from falling on to machinery, Ms Joyce continued.
“It is usually used in entrances to buildings, in factory washrooms, beside swimming pools and in kitchens and factories,” she stated.
As well as preventing injuries to workers, anti-slip matting could ensure members of the public do not come to any harm, the expert concluded.
Last month, a man launched a personal injury claim against supermarket Asda after slipping on a grape in the retailer’s Peterborough store.
