Anglia TV presenters claim for unfair dismissal over redundancy
Posted 21/12/2009
Two television reporters who were selected for redundancy by Anglia TV are to launch unfair dismissal claims against the broadcaster over allegations of age discrimination.
Dianne Stradling and Rebecca Atherstone are taking the TV station to employment tribunals in Bury St Edmunds after claiming that they have been replaced because they are over 50, reports the Evening Star.
In both cases, the reporters allege that they were told their positions had become redundant, only to find that a younger person had since filled the same role but with a different title.
The pair have therefore chosen to pursue legal action on the basis, as well as adding that a third person is also considering a case.
Anglia TV’s parent company ITV refused to comment on the legal proceedings while they remain ongoing.
Older people’s charity Age Concern and Help the Aged recently expressed its worry that ageist attitudes among many companies is leading to an increase in unemployment among over 50s.
