External panel review into care provided by paediatric orthopaedic surgeon at Addenbrooke’s Hospital

  • Posted

Following a statement from Addenbrooke’s Hospital in February 2025, advising an external review had been commissioned into the care provided by one of the Trust’s paediatric orthopaedic surgeons, an update was provided in March 2025 to advise that a further external investigation is being undertaken by a panel of expert clinicians chaired by Andrew Kennedy KC to review the care provided to 800 patients (both adult and paediatric cases).

A separate independent review via Veritas (a specialist investigations company) has also been commissioned to investigate what was known about issues arising from the surgeon’s practice and when. The recent statement from Addenbrooke’s in March advises that concerns were originally raised in 2015, with an associated external clinical review in 2016. There are questions regarding whether the review was responded to appropriately, and these will be investigated as part of the separate Veritas Review.

The surgeon has since been named in the press as Ms Kuldeep Stohr. Ms Stohr was suspended from her position at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in January 2025.

Addenbrooke’s have provided a helpline for concerned families together with a dedicated email address to allow concerned families to get in touch.

Addenbrooke’s helpline is 0808 175 6331 and is open between 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday, offering further support to patients and families. Addenbrooke’s dedicated email address is CUH.helpline@nhs.net.

Ali Masterson in our Medical Negligence team comments: “It is always deeply concerning when a surgeon is specifically investigated with regard to the care they have provided, but particularly in this case when it is clear that there were issues in 2015/2016 and questions arise about the action the hospital took in response to that review.”

If you feel you may be affected by this issue and have not already been contacted by the Hospital, the first step would be to get in touch with the Hospital via the helpline number/email address provided above.
