Seven figure personal injury settlement for seriously injured cyclist

Ashtons Legal has recently settled a personal injury claim for a cyclist seriously injured in a collision with a large vehicle.

The vehicle’s insurers strenuously denied liability, and a court trial on liability was scheduled for 2026. Mr T had undergone elective amputation surgery almost three years post-accident, as the leg reconstruction, including a knee replacement, had been unsuccessful in reducing his leg pain to tolerable levels.

This award enables Mr T to purchase more suitable adapted accommodation, an adapted vehicle, and provide funding for some treatment and prosthetics on a private basis.

In addition to his legal team, Mr T was supported throughout his claim by Ashtons’ in-house Client Support and Rehab Team, which he and his family found extremely useful.

However, there is an obligation on both sides to explore settlement, and this settlement provides Mr T with finality and certainty and saves a significant amount in legal costs had the matter been litigated for another year and probably more. Mr T and his family were also supported by our in-house Support and Rehab Team, and in the next few weeks and months, with the help of colleagues in other departments, the settlement funds will be ringfenced, so that the benefits he receives are unaffected, and a suitable property can be purchased.”
