Settlement of £110,000 obtained for Suffolk mesothelioma sufferer’s family

Ashtons Legal asbestos-related disease claim specialist, Ruth Hinchliffe, has obtained a settlement of £110,000 for the family of a mesothelioma sufferer, Mr P, who sadly lost his battle with the disease before the claim concluded.

Mr P had been exposed to asbestos while working as a carpenter.

Ruth comments: “Although his former employers didn’t ever admit liability, we were able to settle Mr P’s claim for £110,000 on behalf of his estate after his death. Unfortunately, tradesmen such as carpenters and plumbers were among those most at risk from exposure to asbestos until the rules surrounding the use of asbestos were tightened. Since mesothelioma is often not apparent and diagnosed until many years after the exposure to asbestos, we are still handling a regular stream of claims for people diagnosed recently with the disease but whose exposure to asbestos dust took place during their employment in the 1950s and 1960s.”
