Injury claims settled following Suffolk train accident

  • Posted

Specialist personal injury lawyers at Ashtons Legal have recently settled injury claims for several individuals who were passengers on a train which was struck by an uncoupled carriage. The force of the collision resulted in passengers being thrown from their seats and suffering injuries of varying degrees of severity.

Ms L was one of the most seriously injured. She was thrown to the floor with considerable force during the impact and suffered a wide range of injuries. While some of these, such as fractured ribs, were relatively quick to heal, Ms L also suffered injuries which will affect her for the rest of her life. In particular, she suffered cuts to her face, which required plastic surgery and has ongoing cognitive symptoms, which medical reports have said indicate mild traumatic brain injury. She is also suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Louise Harper was Ms L’s injury claim solicitor. She comments: “The train company was quick to accept liability for the passengers’ injuries, which helped the progress of these claims. Ms L needed an in-depth medical assessment relating to her symptoms, particularly to establish the likely long-term effects of her head injuries. Sadly for Ms L, who was in her early 70s at the time of the incident, the quality of her retirement has been negatively affected by the ongoing symptoms she is now suffering, and she needs more help with day-to-day living than would have been the case if the incident had not occurred.”
