£188,000 settlement obtained for widow of Norfolk mesothelioma sufferer

Ruth Hinchliffe, an asbestos-related disease specialist lawyer at Ashtons Legal, has settled a mesothelioma claim for the widow of a Norfolk man, Mr T, who died recently, having been exposed to asbestos for prolonged periods in the 1950s and 1960s.

Like many mesothelioma sufferers, Mr T had worked as a plumber, and was therefore exposed extensively to asbestos, particularly in relation to pipe lagging, during his working life.

Ruth comments: “Mr T approached us once he had been diagnosed with mesothelioma, and we were able to use the thorough account that he gave us of his working life to prepare his claim. In this case, it was relatively easy to prove when his exposure to asbestos had taken place, as he had been a long-serving employee in a business. Fortunately, this meant that we were able to obtain an admission of liability and interim payments quite soon after starting his claim. Although he sadly died before the claim concluded, we were able to settle it on behalf of his widow”.
