Re Walk and true grit
Posted 10/05/2012
Many congratulations to Claire Lomas for walking the London Marathon despite her spinal cord injury in 2006 leaving her paralysed from the chest down. This astonishing feat was possible through the use of the Re Walk robotic walking suit and real grit and courage on the part of Claire who trained for months to master the device. She managed only a mile a day at first but was able to increase this over the 16 days she took to complete the course. Such advances in technology can make a real difference to those with spinal cord injuries and those of us who specialise in claims on their behalf need to be aware of not only what is available now, but also in the future so that compensation awards are adequate to cover the cost. All the technology in the world will be of little use without the determination and bravery of those with spinal cord injuries to do what they want to do, a constant inspiration to those of us who work with them. Claire’s fantastic achievement has also raised more than ?130,000 for Spinal Research, who fund spinal cord repair research. Her JustGiving page is still open!
