An inquest opens tomorrow (30 January) into the death of a Letchworth man who had been admitted to hospital with acute asthma.

Darron Levy, 40, had been admitted to the Lister Hospital in Stevenage in February 2013, after attending accident and emergency.

Mr Levy remained on ventilation for a week but then seemed to recover. But the night before his anticipated discharge his condition worsened and he suffered a cardiac arrest. As a result he fell into a permanent vegetative state and died a month later.

Mr Levy’s partner, Samantha Haigh, is being represented at the inquest by medical negligence lawyer Sharon Allison of Ashtons Legal.

“Samantha is naturally in deep shock and distress at the death of her partner,” Sharon explains. “There are aspects of Mr Levy’s death which are unclear and unexplained and all concerned are looking to the inquest to provide clarification on some of those questions.”

The inquest will be held at the Old Courthouse, Hatfield, beginning at 10am tomorrow and is scheduled for two days.
