Brain Tumours

  • Posted

One of the most common neurological complaints we receive at Ashtons Legal is the delay in diagnosis of brain tumours.  Early diagnosis of brain tumours is not necessarily easy for clinicians to spot however they must consider the potential diagnosis even if the possibility of the same is remote.

Investigations such as scans and imagining managed to detect the majority of tumours, but on some occasions, they may not.

We have seen in previous cases where clinicians have been reassured by a seemingly normal CT Scan however, when the patient’s symptoms persist, scans have not been repeated, leading to a delay in essential treatment to prevent a worse outcome.

Sharon Allison, Partner and Head of Medical Negligence at Ashtons Legal, advises: “The impact of the delay in diagnosis and treatment in these cases can be profound for the patient and their family who will need to care for them.

“Often, significant care and support will be required to manage any consequent disability and that level and care of care and support is not readily available through statutory services.

“Early investigation into such a claim and timely determination of liability issues with the Defendant means that interim funds can be secured to help provide necessary care and support and full packages of rehabilitation support can be put in place to minimise the catastrophic effects of such a devastating injury.”
